The Civil War period Hospital Steward chevrons are a half chevron of emerald green wool cloth, 1 3/4 inches wide running obliquely downward from the outer to the inner seam of the sleeve at an angle of about thirty degrees. The border is embroidered in yellow silk 1/8 inch wide, and in the center is a "caduceus" 2 inches long also embroidered with yellow silk. The head of the caduceus is worn toward the outer seam of the sleeve. Sold in pair.
