Designed by German armourers near the end of the 15th C, this helmet fit the head quite closely, prompting the name, "close" helmet. Hinged side plates lock down over the face, followed by the hinged visor to fit up to a 16" neck size. From the Sack of Rome to the Battle of Pavia, warriors wore the "close" helmet because it provided a good fit and was also easy to remove. 18 gauge steel.
