Designed by Admiral John A.B. Dahlgren, USN around 1856, this Bowie Bayonet was first produced by the Ames Mfg. Co. in 1861 to fit the Whitney Plymouth Navy rifle. Between 1861 and 1864 Ames manufactured about 1,800 of these bayonets. This replica is made of tempered carbon steel with a wooden grip, brass butt and curved quillon. Overall length: 19.25 inches.
