Product Overview
The 3rd Regiment was seeded in 1635 when 3-year-old Timoléon de Sercourt d’Esclainvilliers inherited his father’s Light Horse company. It became part of the Cardinal Duc regiment the same year and fought in the Battle of Rocroi as the Esclainvilliers Cavalry. It was renamed the Commissaire General Regiment in 1656, after distinguishing itself in Flanders. After a century of more battles in Flanders, Ratisbon, and duty in the Alps and on the French coastline, it was renamed the 3rd Régiment de Cavalrie in 1791 and finally the 3rd Cuirassiers in 1802/1803.
The Cuirassier’s battle dress created quite an imposing figure as they charged into the fray. Surviving accounts from British opponents attest to the petrifying spectacle of compact groups of Cuirassiers emerging from behind the French front lines.
This is a beautiful reproduction of a French 1st Empire Cuirassier cavalry helmet, 3rd regiment. Worn by Napoleon’s Cuirassiers as they fought to create an empire, our replica has all brass construction. The front of the ornately designed crest features the head of Medusa, with a flaming bomb underneath. The long red hackle plume signifies heavy cavalry duty. The lower portion of the helmet is overlaid with black suede leather. Genuine horse hair is used for the tail and the flaming bomb topper. This superb replica is fully wearable (fits up to size 7). It features an adjustable leather and linen liner and includes a FREE wood display stand.Made by Windlass Steelcrafts.
