Early bowie knives were large, tough and sharp; they were easily capable of chopping down a tree or an enemy. This is one tough, and highly effective knife! Blade is a full 13" long with a needle point. Width of the blade is 2 3/8". The hardwood grip is 5 1/4" and the brass guard is 4 3/4". Brass strip on spine is an intentional device designed to catch the edge of an attackers blade during a parry. Despite the size of this bowie, the overall weight is only 1 1/2 lbs. 3/16" thick. But, dont let the weight fool you, we cut down a 4" sapling in no time and the blade would still shave.
