Product Overview

The US Model 1855 Musket cartridge box was issued to infantry and dismounted troops during the Civil War. This high-quality reproduction is crafted from durable black leather and includes a seventy-two inch one-piece leather shoulder strap for proper military carry.

Unlike a modern pistol holster or commercial pistol case, this historical cartridge box was specifically designed to carry musket ammunition. It features an inner flap and implement pouch, along with two tin inserts for structured storage. The rear includes two attachment straps to secure the sling or allow belt wear, depending on the impression being portrayed.

While smaller ammunition pouches were sometimes used for pistol cap storage, the M1855 pattern was primarily intended for infantry cartridges. The shoulder strap design—sometimes loosely compared to modern cardboard box straps in structure—ensures balanced weight distribution during field movement.

Available in black leather for traditional infantry impressions, a russet brown version is also offered for wear on a waist belt only. This Civil War cartridge box provides the durability, structure, and period-correct appearance required for reenactment, living history, and museum-quality uniform builds.
