The 14th Century Longsword is a Royal Armouries Sword IX.1106 replica from the Royal Armouries Collection by Windlass Steelcrafts. The original is a mid-to-late 14th century longsword found in Lake Constance, where Austria, Germany, and Switzerland meet. It features a stiff, tapered, double-edged straight blade with an acute tip, a hand-and-a-half hilt, and a wheel pommel with complex shaping.
This longsword replica is crafted with a hand forged blade using modern 1080 high-carbon steel that is fully tempered and distally tapered for proper weight distribution. The blade has a simple flatted diamond cross-section and is double-edged with a bevel on each side. The edge is unsharpened. The wood-bodied sheath is covered with leather and finished with a brass chape featuring a traditional cut-out. A certificate of authenticity and polishing cloth are included.
With an overall length of 44 inches and a 34 1/2-inch blade, this two hand sword accurately reflects the form and handling characteristics of historical battlefield swords. The design reflects a sword type that may have been used by armored men-at-arms and knights in Europe during the second half of the 14th century. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be seen in the Royal Armories Collection, Object Number IX.1106.
