Product Overview
This 1840 Ames NCO Sword is an authentic reproduction of the iconic sidearm carried by American non-commissioned officers for over 70 years, including during the Mexican War, American Civil War, and Spanish-American War. This model is faithfully copied from an original Ames sword and manufactured by Windlass Steelcrafts.
The sword features a single-edged 31-3/4 inch blade made from 1075 high carbon steel, complete with a broad fuller that runs from the ricasso to near the tip. It comes factory sharp, ideal for historical collectors and serious reenactors. The left ricasso is stamped with AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS, and the right ricasso reads US / DFM / 1863, just like the originals.
The entire hilt is cast in brass, featuring a ribbed grip, kidney-shaped hand guards, and a globular pommel with capstan—all true to the 19th-century design. The sword includes a leather scabbard with brass fittings, replicating the historical Ames-style sheath for an accurate and professional display.
