Product Overview

The French Napoleonic Briquet Short Sword is a historically inspired reproduction of the famous briquet sabre carried by French infantry during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Originally introduced in 1767 before the French Revolution, the briquet sword replaced heavier infantry weapons and quickly became one of the most recognizable sidearms of the Napoleonic era.

Nicknamed “Briquet”, meaning fire lighter, the sword gained its official designation in 1806 and was widely issued to Napoleon’s infantry soldiers, artillery units, grenadiers, corporals, and non-commissioned officers. Its compact size made it a practical weapon for close-quarters combat while remaining easy to carry during long military campaigns across Europe.

The slightly upswept blade design allows effective slashing while its sturdy construction provides excellent thrusting capability. Because of its durability and versatility, the French briquet sword was not only used in combat but also served as a field tool by soldiers on campaign.

This replica faithfully captures the appearance of the historical briquet sabre, featuring a distally tapered blade that comes factory sharpened. The sword includes a leather scabbard with brass throat and chape, making it suitable for display, historical collections, and reenactment use.

Manufactured by Windlass Steelcrafts, this reproduction offers collectors an authentic representation of one of the most iconic Napoleonic infantry swords.
