Product Overview

Confederate "D" Guard Bowie - the Confederate soldier wanted a bowie for one reason "to get a Yankee". He wanted it big and he wanted hand protection. This one has got both, with a monster blade and a brass "D" guard. 16" full tang blade, hardwood scales and "D" guard add up to only 1 lb. 10 oz. Windlass Steelcrafts® has kept the blade thin just like the real ones. For several hundred years the Infantry and Artillery soldier was always issued a short sword of one form or another. During the Civil War most of these were heavy "roman" type swords which were often conveniently "lost" by travel weary troops. A soldier on the move soon learns to travel light, so a homemade bowie was often treasured as a backup weapon when the enemy cavalry were "under the guns". This is your chance to own a serious piece of history. Overall 21-1/2". Blade 16" long, 2" wide and 3/16" thick.
